Q: What is FiberCape?

A: FiberCape is a brand name of an Internet Service delivered to high bandwidth users of the Internet. The service area is currently Concord, NH through Southern and Eastern, MA including The Islands.

Q: What is the wireless technology being offered?

A: This is a microwave technology that allows you to use an antenna to connect to the nearest transmitter site. It meets the requirements of the FCC and the IEEE. Professional class service uses a Near Line of Sight technology in a different frequency spectrum. The underlying technology is WiMAX and/or MIMO. This technology polls the customers, and therefore supports many more users.

Q: What kind of network architecture is used with Wifibernet?

A: The wireless modems connect to an IP-network that uses a router that directs connectivity to the destination. This insures "interoperability" with other networking systems. Customers are provided a private IP address.

Q: What is Wifibernet Technology?

A: This is a technology that blends wireless, fiber-like speeds, on a network architecture. Visit our "Wifibernet Technology" page.

Q: Is this Wi-Fi, or a hotspot, at the 2.4 GHz frequency?

A: No, the service uses the 3.5 - 5.8 GHz frequency bands. For Public Safety, a 4.9 GHz license is specified, if applicable and approved by the FCC. Otherwise, the 3.5, and 5.2-5.8 GHz frequencies are used.

Q: Is this secure?

A: This is highly secure. Security is layered. That is why we provide connectivity over a private IP network.

Q: What advantages does Wireless connectivity offer?

A: Wireless transmission is transparent. Signaling speeds on client devices are at fiber optic speeds. Wireless goes to rural areas, over water, and even has a near line-of-sight capability. It is cost effective. You are now offered another choice in Internet connectivity.

Q: How reliable is wireless?

A: During major storms (like Katrina), only the wireless systems stayed up and operational. The wireless network is another way of getting to another site or to the Internet. Wireless has been praised in the media! Even the government has been pushing for networks like ours!

Q: Do you have a free Wi-Fi service?

A: Yes, at selected spots. But our regular service is not Wi-Fi related. There is limited range with Wi-Fi, and our service concentrates on users who need robust connectivity.
